Useful information
All documents issued by British officials that are requested by the Romanian officials in order to carry out certain administrative procedures have to be accompanied by the Romanian translations.
The documents, which usually require the Romanian translation, are the following:
- Marriage Certificate
- Birth Certificate
- Medical Certificate of acknowledgment of birth
- Letter of Confirmation of Status (temporary or indefinite leave to remain)
- Death Certificate
Before sending your documents to the translation office, it is necessary to obtain the 1961 Hague Apostille. The Apostille or the legalisation certificate is a document that is attached to the original document in English, its purpose being that of legalising the signature, seal or stamp of the British official who drafted that specific document. It is issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office – the Legalisation Department and it is necessary only for certificates of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
The address of the Legalisation Department from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is the following:
Foreign & Commonwealth
The Legalisation Office
Norfolk House(west)
437 Silbury Boulevard
Milton Keynes
MK9 2AH

The documents to be legalized can also be sent by post – the waiting period being of minimum 10 days. The legalization fee is of £28.80 per document.
Once you have obtained the Apostille you can send the documents for translation.
The translation of the documents takes minimum 24h to maximum 3 days. Once the authorized translations have been performed, you can bring them to the Consular Department of the Romanian Embassy in London to have them legalized.
